I’m Candace.

I am a mom of one and a wife of one 😂 . I was a Chemist and Chemistry Teacher. And I have been homeschooling our daughter, Jana, for the past 5 years.

Our Little Family

During my homeschool journey, I’ve met a number of moms who wanted to start homeschooling but were afraid. Either afraid of failing or afraid of having to spend all that time with their kids.

Am I getting it right? Will my child be as competent as the children in the public school next door? (We literally live next door to a public school). Are my kids going to drive me up a wall all day long? Why should I have to endure my kids all day in homeschool when I can send them to school all day?

I want this blog to empower moms like me. I want this blog to let you know that you can BE FEARLESS! You can do this. You can teach your children in your own home, and your children can reach the skies just like all other children. BE FEARLESS is a theme that I taught the hundreds of boys who were my Chemistry Students. Yes! I taught high school Chemistry at an elite Manhattan high school for a few years.

I remember that one day a doubter said to me, “Teacher, Chemistry is hard. How will we ever get this?” I didn’t miss a beat.

“Chemistry is not for the weak son. You’ve got to be strong. You’ve got to be willing to work. You’ve got to give it your best shot. You’ve gotta be fearless!”

I don’t know what Spirit overcame me at that moment, but when I was finished, the class applauded my words. From that day on, whenever anyone complained about the work, another kid would shout, “Be Fearless!” It was an epic moment and a defining moment for me as a teacher.

Here are 8 random facts about me

  1. I was born in Trinidad (in the Caribbean). Officially, it’s the twin-island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
  2. That explains why I can’t stand Winter. But Fall is my favorite season because it’s neither too hot nor too cold. Oh, the weather! Oh, the colors! Oh, the warmth! I love Fall. Don’t you?
  3. I am a morning person. I can get twice as much done in the morning as I get done at any other time of the day.
  4. For that reason, we start homeschooling by 7:30 am. Because if I don’t get it done early, it’s not going to get done. And that’s exactly how my life works for everything.
  5. In another life, I would have really enjoyed being an athlete.
  6. My love language is acts of service. That’s why I am starting this blog – to help other moms.
  7. I love traveling. Paris is one of my favorite places. But, like New York, I have a love/hate relationship with it.
  8. I loved teaching high school much more than I imagined I would. I think that there is something meaningful about watching the metamorphosis of a student from being ignorant in a subject to becoming an expert at it.
  9. I am a Christian.
  10. Win or lose, I do my best.
