One Way To Create Free Spelling Worksheets and Stop Paying for Them
TPT
I first registered for Teachers Pay Teachers in 2012. At that time, I was a Chemistry teacher in an elite all-boys high school in Manhattan. However, my husband and I were ready to have kids, and we knew that we wanted to start homeschooling. So, I was looking for a way to make an extra income.
I don’t remember where I read about Teachers Pay Teachers. But when I did, I signed up right away and listed about 5 of my worksheets. I made like $10 in sales. But I only received like $3 (maybe I’m exaggerating here), with TPT pocketing the rest of my money. So I quickly decided that my time and effort just was not worth $3. For the next 8 years, I rarely thought about TPT, although now and then a sale would come through.
Here’s the thing about Teacher’s Pay Teachers (and I’m by no means knocking TPT. I have a TPT Store), you can create many of the worksheets that you choose to buy on the platform. Perhaps yours may not be as cute. But if functionality means more to you than anything else, then there are free tools that you can use.
How To Create Your Free Spelling Worksheets
I found one such tool years ago – CommonCoreSheets.com. And let me tell you, I have created so many free Spelling worksheets with it. It’s no wonder I have over 45 six-page Spelling workbooks sitting on my computer right now.
Each week, Jana learns 25 Spelling words. Ten of them are from her Sonlight Language Arts Curriculum. The other 15 words are words that she has misspelled in essays or words that I think she should know. I use Common Core Sheets to create a weekly spelling packet with the following activities
- Spell Each Word 4 Times
- Fill in the missing words in the sentences.
- Write the 25 words in Alphabetical Order
- Circle the word that is spelled correctly.
- Write Sentences using each word
- Fill in the missing letters
Here is a video I put up on our YouTube channel explaining how to create the spelling worksheets
And here’s even better news. You can also use Common Core Sheets to create Math, LA, Social Studies worksheets, and all sorts of other freebies. In addition, you can use other people’s worksheets for free, without creating anything.
Now, as you’ll see from my video above, the site is a bit ancient-looking. But nobody can deny that it’s an awesome tool. Honestly, I don’t much care about how the site looks if it helps me teach Jana better.
Anyway, hope this helps. Don’t forget to join my email list for other helpful (free & co) tips. Happy Homeschooling!
